Laser Pocket Therapy (LPT) or Laser Assisted Periodontal New Attachment Procedure (LANAP)
If you have "periodontal pockets" between 4-6mm, this option of treatment will be discussed with you.
LPT is a scientifically proven NON-SURGICAL technique used for the treatment of periodontal disease in patients. This patient friendly laser treatment is extremely effective and far less invasive than conventional periodontal surgery. LPT results in less bleeding, less pain, reduced swelling, less tissue removal, and no recovery time for you. LPT is one of the most important breakthroughs in 21st century dentistry and Dr Desai is the FIRST periodontist in Canada implementing this state of art into private periodontal practice which has proven to be as effective as conventional surgery for the treatment of periodontal disease with proper follow up.
The LPT procedure starts with minimal local anaesthetic to eliminate any possible discomfort. Next, a laser fibre like a human hair, is inserted into the pocket. Water & air propel from the laser tip and sterilizes the pocket, removes diseased tissue only, and finally reduces the amount of bacteria associated with periodontal disease. After the area is thoroughly cleaned, your body will begin to heal the area naturally.
LPT doesn't take a great deal of time to complete, usually completed in two x 2 hour sessions. The feeling of recovery is almost immediate. In fact, after the procedure you can drive your car, go back to work, or go home to your family.
LPT is "erasing the blackboard of disease", there's no cutting. LPT is safe for patients with health concerns such as diabetes, HIV, hemophilia, or those taking blood thinners such as aspirin vs traditional surgery - as no change in medication dosing is necessary for treatment. If you are having traditional "FLAP SURGERY" for "POCKET ELIMINATION" then LPT is an alternative!
