GUM DISEASE & the MINIE™ FLAP

87% of adults have some sort of gum disease. Once you are diagnosed, you will always have it, the only treatment is control of the disease – there is no cure!

Periodontal disease is a chronic gum and bone inflammation/ infection much like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or crohnʼs disease. Bleeding gums, bad breath, loose teeth, or receding gums are all advanced cases of gum disease. While most people only experience food impaction on occasion.

Treatment has two options:

Removal of the superficial bacteria in plaque & tartar via scaling & root planning.

Laser Treatment removes bacteria from the inner gum lining and stimulates reattachment of the gums and regeneration and healing, while traditional flap surgery could never do this and horrible side effects are left with sensitive teeth and big holes between the teeth where the pockets were and food impaction which makes things very tough to keep clean

Dr Desai’s trademarked technique of MINIE ™  flaps avoids all this with an innovative, minimially invasive approach to treating gum disease resulting in better long term results to avoid the side effects

The MINIE ™ flap was Dr Desai’s MSc thesis paper which she is now lecturing on all over the world.
